Datacenter vs Residential vs ISP Static IP: Best Choice for Trading Bots

The three options

Traders who learn they need a fixed IP usually discover three products: an ISP-provided static IP on their home connection, residential proxies, and datacenter proxies. They solve different problems, and only one is really built for 24×7 API trading.

Option 1 — ISP static IP on home broadband

Option 2 — Residential proxies

Residential proxy networks route your traffic through real household devices. They are designed for web scraping, sneaker bots and ad verification — use cases that need to look like ordinary consumers. They are the wrong tool for trading: IPs rotate by design, sessions are unstable, per-GB pricing is expensive, and routing through random third-party devices is a compliance nightmare for financial traffic.

Option 3 — Dedicated datacenter static IP

On price, datacenter wins. On uptime, datacenter wins (your home UPS is not a datacenter). On portability, datacenter wins. On latency to NSE/BSE-region endpoints, Mumbai datacenter wins. The ISP static IP is acceptable if you never move and never lose power; residential proxies should simply never carry your order flow.

One caveat: shared datacenter IPs

Cheap "shared static" proxy plans put many customers behind one address. For trading this recreates the CGNAT problem with extra steps — a stranger's abuse can burn the IP your broker trusts. Always insist on a dedicated allocation. Every Algo-IP address is single-tenant.
